What’s so wrong with being a wife and a mother?

…or, for that matter, being a husband and a father?

In Robert Cardinal Sarah’s book ‘God or Nothing,’ he quotes the radical feminist Simone de Beauvoir: “One is not born a woman, one becomes so.”

Cardinal Sarah then adds Pope Benedict XVI’s rebuttal: “These words lay the foundation for what is put forward today under the term ‘gender’ as a new philosophy of sexuality. According to this philosophy, sex is no longer a given element of nature, that man has to accept and personally make sense of: it is a social role that we choose for ourselves, while in the past it was chosen for us by society. The profound falsehood of this theory and of the anthropological revolution contained within it is obvious. People dispute the idea that they have a nature, given by their bodily identity, that serves as a defining element of the human being. They deny their nature and decide that it is not something previously given to them, but that they make it for themselves…what applies now is this: it is not God who created them male and female–hitherto society did this, now we decide for ourselves. Man and woman, as created realities, as the nature of the human being, no longer exist. Man calls his nature into question. From now on he is merely spirit and will. The manipulation of nature…now becomes man’s fundamental choice where he himself is concerned.”

Let’s break this down a little bit.

First Simone.

One is not born a woman, one becomes so.” Personally, I did not become a baby boy or a young boy by effort. I did not struggle, or barter, or manipulate for my DNA, my genital makeup, or my hormonal constitution. I did not pick my height, my heritage, or my temperament. God, nature, and the rolling out of reality in time did that for me. Reality is factually based. Nature has rules. And there is a term for those of us who cannot jibe with reality. It is called insanity.

Furthermore, those of us who try to experiment with nature so that we can create something unnatural usually end up in the history books as Frankenstein, or as the Nazi doctors. And those of us who try to redefine the forever fact of human nature wind up in the loss column called heretics and apostates. In this group include those who are idolaters, demagogues, tyrants, persecutors, killers, terrorists, psychotics, molesters, rapists, and the demonically possessed.

Nowadays, this false philosophy has given birth to relativism, political correctness, the democratic party, the culture of death, radical feminism, transgenderism, all inspired by militant atheism, all incarnate in anti-Christianity.

Now Benedict XVI.

He points out that the progressive movement has put out a philosophy of sexuality. But is it really a philosophy? Can philosophy be illogical and still be philosophical? After all, Philosophy is the love of wisdom. And Wisdom is neither illogical, nor is it destructive. It is not, moreover, narcissistic, anti-social, divisive, against natural law, nor is it anti-biblical. But the ‘gender’ movement is absolutely narcissistic. It is ‘my will be done.’ It is anti-social in setting up divisions that manifest themselves politically, religiously, and communally. It is also anti-social and divisive in that it kills unborn children, and the elderly, in the empowerment of supreme individualism. It kills marriage in less frequent ‘complementarity’ of the sexes. It denies natural law; thereby promoting the denial of reality; thereby causing a proliferation of a social schizophrenia. Finally, it is Pelagian in nature, idolatrous in its religious essence, and anti-biblical to the core.

So how is a Catholic to address this social dilemma?

Prayer is number one. Remember, pray for your enemies. Especially the enemies of the Church, the Truth, and the Christ. Second, catechize your children in the Truth of God’s Creative beauty in ‘man and woman.’ Third, evangelize the unadulterated gospel truth ‘in season and out.’ And finally, live your maleness or your femaleness, as God created you through nature, to the fullest with thanksgiving and joy.

Remember, the ‘complementarity’ of the human sexes reflects the marriage of Christ, the Groom, with His Church, the Bride. Most probably, that is precisely what the devil is trying to obscure in this ‘gender’ heresy.
