Sometimes it is comical to enter into the mind of the liberal Christian.
Occasionally it is sad.
Oftentimes it is downright scary.
Some Christians subscribe to the biblical exegesis/scholarship (?) of the old ‘Jesus Seminar,’ and the likes of Marcus Borg. In this comical exercise, or failed experiment, in ‘historical exegesis’ of Jesus of Nazareth, we meet a Jesus who is a ‘Spirit person,’ well versed in all the methodology of mysticism, a ‘movement initiator’ who is part politician, part zealot, and part social worker, who moves people to follow him through miraculous activities which flow from his ‘spiritual intuitiveness’ but nonetheless has no idea that he is the ‘Messiah’ or the ‘Son of God.’
This Jesus’ Cross was a pure accident, a pure tragedy, and is ‘purified’ (through liberal theology) from the Paschal Mystery, the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, the Last Supper, the Eucharist, the sacraments, and our salvation.
This is a convenient theology created to downplay the Catholic Church’s Magisterium and its pesky morality, particularly when it applies to Life issues, sexuality, and marriage.
Catholics, café style, have long been mysterious Democrat voters. Going to church on Sunday–or do they?–receiving the Eucharist worthily…or do they?–they enter into the public square to vote for Pro-Choice politicians, throwing their public support for such anti-Catholic tragedies as gay ‘marriage,’ government mandated contraception, and, by the previous item, religious persecution. Twice for Obama, and maybe once for Hillary, they have empowered the most radical anti-Catholic President in American history.
But do they go to confession? Do they repent and convert? Heck no! They just continue to snub their noses at Holy Mother Church like an obstinate little liberal follower.
Evangelicals, those that claim to hold the gospel truth in their hands, have betrayed their self-righteous portrayal with overwhelming support for the behemoth-heathen Donald Trump. Trumping all over class, dignity, decorum, and decency, Donald has had the privilege (?) of waving the victory flag of the Southern (and all points) Evangelical. It is a sad, scary, dark comedy when Evangelical pastors rationalize their support for a man who anyone with a shred of honesty can see has no Christian faith, no ethics, and no sense of morality.
Liberal Catholics sit on the edge of their seat in anticipation of the ‘off the cuff’ and longwinded speeches and ‘exhortations’ of Pope Francis. Eerily vague at times, Pope Francis is a liberal misquote factory on steroids. Well meaning (?), Pope Francis recently defended the Church’s teaching on marriage, sexuality, and the proper reception of the Eucharist. But his ‘long and winding road’ of an exhortation certainly had its peaks and valleys where the best of theologians had their brains twisted, and their endurance tested, leaving the door open for liberal misinterpretation concerning divorce, remarriage, and reception of the Eucharist.
It is sad how café Catholics act like vultures of mis-opportunity around this Pope.
American Christians are, in large part, tainted by our times.
How many have succumbed to the lie of Sanders socialism? How many have bought into the gender/race politics of Hillary Clinton? How many have monetary hopes, sans social issues, in Donald Trump? How many have ignored the one true, Pro-Life, Pro-Constitution candidate in the race? How many have fallen for the lie of amnesty? How many have fallen for the fallacy of the benefits of gun control? Contraception? Gay ‘marriage?’ Divorce?
How many attend Church on Sunday?
How many use contraception or porn on Monday?
What is more important to them, ‘Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…’ or ‘the pursuit of happiness?’
Is it comical, sad, or scary, or all three?
Am I alone on this?
