O.K., Catholicism is based on the rock solid conviction that all life is made in the ‘image and likeness’ of God, from conception to natural death. Catholicism, therefore, is foundationally, and ontologically, Pro-Life. Democrats are Pro-Choice. Democrats espouse ‘women’s reproductive rights’ which result in the death of unborn human persons. This would be murder. It occurs in such large numbers that this would be genocide. They also have no qualms about euthanasia. Let’s add in all the ways that they promote the inhibition of life (contraception, abortifacients, sterilization, condoms), and you have a party based on, both, death, and the lessening of human existence as we know it.
As I scratch my head, I could end my argument here, and prove without a doubt that democrats cannot be Catholics. But they are.
So lets go on. Catholicism teaches, in Catholic Social Teaching, that charity is the Way of Christ. Therefore, in the principle of ‘subsidiarity,’ governments should allow the local community to take care of the needs of their own people, only intervening to assist as necessary. But the democratic philosophy is the extreme opposite. Large government becomes the nanny state and micromanages the life of the poor, discouraging and de-necessitating charity. You could say it is an anti-Christian way.
Catholicism, moreover, recognizes its familial relationship with Israel. Catholicism recognizes itself as the ‘Universal’ religion of peace. The democratic party, however, befriends the enemies of Israel, to the point of putting this tiny nation at peril, and appeases another religion, which claims to be a ‘religion of peace,’ allowing extreme proponents of this religion to continue worldwide terror.
Catholicism is about family, built upon traditional marriage, with the parental right to bring up their children as they deem appropriate within their Catholic faith. The democratic party has been chipping away at this societal building block, exploding the nuclear family through judicially enforced gay ‘marriage,’ the aforementioned culture of death, insidious restrictions on religious freedom, and a popular culture and educational system infested with progressivism.
Finally, ever since the first wave of Catholic immigrants arrived on our shores, legally I might add, patriotism has always marked the life of an American Catholic. But the democratic party of the last 50 or so years has been anything but patriotic. Pushing illegal immigration, class warfare, and policies which restrict small business and the economy, democrats are, quite often, behind every anti-patriotic revolt in America.
So, help me with this. How can one be a democrat…and Catholic?
God bless…even the democrats.
